Capture powerful, high value Arctic images you will treasure, and potentially profit from, for a lifetime.

6 Days

Feb 2 - Feb 8, 2027

Hello, Fellow Photographers!

Imagine standing on the frozen sands of Uttakleiv Beach as soft Arctic light wraps around jagged peaks rising straight from the sea… or watching the red cabins of Hamnøy glow against snow covered mountains at blue hour.

This winter, we are inviting you on a 6 day immersive photography workshop in the Lofoten Islands, where dramatic coastlines, towering granite spires, and moody Nordic skies collide in the most cinematic way possible.

From the sweeping views near Reine and Fredvang Bridge, to the black sands of Skagsanden, the quiet charm of Nusfjord, and the iconic setting of Flakstad Kirke, every location is carefully chosen to ignite your creativity, elevate your composition skills, and help you build a body of work that truly stands out.

And when darkness falls, we will be watching the skies and, weather permitting, chasing the aurora borealis across the Arctic night.

This is not just another photo trip. This is a winter photography experience designed to transform your portfolio and your trajectory.

And it’s not just about capturing epic winter landscapes. It’s about creating images that can actually SELL.

You’ll work with expert photographers and experienced online art marketers who understand not only how to create breathtaking Arctic imagery, but also the proven types of photos that perform in the real marketplace.

With in-field coaching, composition refinement, and focused editing guidance, you’ll learn exactly what to shoot, how to shoot it, and how to process it for maximum visual and commercial impact.

And for the first time ever, we are taking this even further.

Included in this Lofoten workshop, we will build your professional photography website for you, using your current portfolio and the strongest images you create on this trip. Instead of going home with photos that sit on a hard drive, you’ll leave with a polished online presence designed to showcase and sell your work.

What You’ll Capture:

Uttakleiv Beach – One of the most iconic Arctic beaches in the world. Snow covered peaks rising straight from the sea, icy foreground textures, and soft winter light that feels almost surreal. Sunrise here is pure magic.

Hamnøy & Reine – Classic red rorbuer cabins against dramatic granite spires. Blue hour reflections, moody storm light, and postcard perfect Nordic compositions that belong in any serious landscape portfolio.

Skagsanden & Vareid Beaches – Black sand, flowing water patterns, and endless foreground opportunities. Long exposures here create elegant, minimalist winter seascapes that feel powerful and timeless.

Flakstad Kirke – A historic red church framed by snow covered mountains and Arctic skies. Clean lines, bold contrast, and a uniquely Scandinavian subject that adds depth and storytelling to your body of work.

Fredvang Bridge & Nusfjord – Sweeping elevated views and charming fishing village scenes. From graphic leading lines to intimate coastal details, these locations give you range and variety.

Arctic Wildlife (If We’re Lucky) – While this is primarily a landscape workshop, Lofoten is home to powerful wildlife. Keep your lens ready for white-tailed sea eagles soaring overhead, moose moving through snowy terrain, and even orcas offshore. Large wildlife encounters are never guaranteed, but when they happen, they are unforgettable.

Aurora Borealis (Weather Permitting) – When conditions align, we will chase the northern lights across the Arctic night. Dancing greens over jagged peaks and quiet fjords. It is unpredictable, but when it happens, it is unforgettable.

Moody Arctic Weather & Atmosphere – Lofoten is known for fast moving storms, shifting light, and cinematic skies. Snow squalls, fog drifting between peaks, and sudden bursts of light create images with real emotion and depth.

And just a heads up...
We are photographing in the Arctic in winter. Weather can shift quickly, roads can close, and the light can change in minutes.

We build flexibility into every day so we can adapt, pivot, and chase the best possible conditions. That is part of the magic here. We cannot control the sky, but we can position ourselves intelligently to take advantage of whatever nature gives us. And in Lofoten, it almost always gives us something extraordinary.

  • 📷 CAMERA GEAR

✔️ Your Camera – Any DSLR or mirrorless camera that performs well in low light. Full-frame sensors are ideal for aurora and winter conditions, but great images can be made with crop sensors too.

✔️ A Sturdy Tripod – Absolutely essential for long exposures, blue hour, and northern lights photography. Winter wind can be strong, so stability matters.

✔️ Wireless Remote or Cable Release (Optional but Recommended) – Helpful for tack-sharp long exposures and aurora shooting.

✔️ Telephoto Lens – Recommended range 70-200mm or 100-400mm. Great for isolating mountain peaks and, if we’re lucky, capturing eagles, moose, or even distant orcas.

✔️ Standard Zoom (24-70mm recommended) – Your workhorse lens for landscapes, villages like Hamnøy and Reine, and versatile compositions.

✔️ Ultra-Wide Lens (14-24mm or similar) – Highly recommended for dramatic foregrounds and aurora borealis photography.

✔️ ND Filters (Optional) – Useful for long exposures along beaches and moving water when conditions allow.

✔️ Polarizing Filter – Helps manage glare on water and snow while enhancing contrast in skies and landscapes.

✔️ Extra Camera Batteries – Cold weather drains batteries much faster. Bring at least 3-4 spares and keep them warm in your jacket.

✔️ Plenty of Extra Memory Cards – Long exposures and bracketing can fill cards quickly.

✔️ Lens Cloths & Blower – Snow, sea spray, and moisture are part of Arctic life. Keep your glass clean and ready.

    💻 MISCELLANEOUS GEAR

✔️ Laptop with Lightroom or Photoshop – For post-processing sessions, critiques, and refining your best images.

✔️ Laptop Charger & External Hard Drive – Back up your images daily. Arctic magic deserves protection.

✔️ Reusable Water Bottle – Stay hydrated in cold, dry air.

✔️ Sunglasses & Basic Sun Protection – Snow glare can be intense, even in winter.

✔️ Notebook & Pen (Optional) – For jotting down settings, ideas, or business insights during the trip.

🧥 CLOTHING & WINTER WEATHER GEAR

✔️ Layered Clothing System – Expect temperatures roughly 20°F to 40°F (-6°C to 5°C), though wind chill can make it feel colder. Base layers, mid-layers, and insulated outer layers are key.

✔️ Waterproof Outer Shell – A high-quality waterproof jacket and pants are essential. Snow, wind, and coastal weather can change quickly.

✔️ Insulated Gloves + Thin Liner Gloves – So you can adjust camera settings without freezing your fingers.

✔️ Warm Hat & Neck Gaiter or Balaclava – Arctic wind can be intense, especially along the coast.

✔️ Waterproof Hiking Boots – We will be walking on uneven, snowy, icy, or wet terrain.

✔️ Wool or Thermal Socks – Bring multiple pairs. Cold feet end creativity fast.

✔️ Hand & Foot Warmers (Highly Recommended) – Especially helpful during long aurora sessions at night.

I accept all levels of experience in photography, but please make sure you have the gear needed; otherwise, it will be no fun for you. If you are missing a lens or an ND filter, don’t worry!

There will be no long or strenuous hiking or heavy physical exertion needed. People in their 20s-80s join us in these workshops. However, you must be able to walk up a few flights of stairs with your gear. If that is going to be a challenge, this might not be the best next workshop for you.

If you have a Non-Photographer +1, they may attend the entire workshop. But due to the high, hard costs associated with this trip, any +1 on this trip will be the same cost as a regular photographer.

If you have more questions regarding the workshop please send an email to support@craigalexanderacademy.com. Or book a zoom call with us to get faster answers. Click here to book a call

The best airport to fly into is Leknes Regional Airport (LKN).

We recommend arriving either the evening of Feb 1 or the morning of Feb 2 so you are settled and ready for our official meetup and hotel check-in in Leknes.

We will gather as a group once everyone has arrived, review logistics, discuss shooting strategy for the week, and prepare for our first location.

After the adventure, you will depart from Leknes Regional Airport (LKN) on Feb 8. We recommend booking a flight that departs at 11:30 AM or later to ensure you have plenty of time to reach the airport comfortably.

The hotels are included in this trip. Details will be shared with you in the private Whatsapp group chat as we get closer to the event!
